Linde Colombia S.A.’s Homecare division, together with the Colombian Association of Critical Medicine and Intensive Care (AMCI), arranged the 1st International Congress of Innovative Strategies in the management of neuromuscular patients from the Intensive Care Unit to their return home. This event was held on November 21st and 22nd of 2014 at JW Marriot Hotel in Bogota, and it was addressed to all health personnel dedicated to the care of patients with neuromuscular diseases with respiratory compromise in all evolutionary stages. Recognized lecturers both at national and international level participated in the congress.
Corporate objectives
• Achieve academic positioning of the REMEO Program as the leader in the attention of patients with neuromuscular diseases with prolonged mechanical ventilation and comprehensive rehabilitation
• Show Linde and its REMEO® program as an innovative company and leader in the delivery of health services, providing comprehensive care and attention in short and long term for ventilated patients, making the difference between critical care and homecare attention
• Share REMEO Program’s experience on new strategies for mechanical ventilation that are forefront in the treatment of chronic ventilated patients
• Train health professionals to provide better and safer patient care
Taking into account this context, the congress proposed the following objectives:
Specific objectives
• Apply new clinical challenges in the care of neuromuscular patients
• Expose the team roles in the care of neuromuscular patients
• Evaluation of the most recent evidence about the results and impact in the care of rehabilitation of neuromuscular patients • Describe the use of new interventions on mechanical ventilation to improve the clinical developments
• Expose the different alternatives in the ventilatory management of neuromuscular patients
• Identify ideal conditions to define patient transfer from ICU to homecare
• Specify and analyze the best clinical practices to implement and maintain a defined protocol in the care of neuromuscular patients
• Instruct related professionals in the comprehensive attention with respiratory compromise due to an ENM by learning the different stages of the disease
The focus of the topics worked, as the multidisciplinary approach of the neuromuscular diseases with respiratory compromise is essential and of great interest for our program. There is an increased incidence and prevalence of these diseases, as well as the high personal, familiar and society impact. This presents new challenges in the comprehensive management of patients in the rehabilitation areas and dimensions, technological dependence and the need to return patients to their homes.
